A tale of 3 sinks, oh so cautionary.

It is a very good thing I'm not super OCD.

I broke one of my bathroom sinks last week with boiling water. Don't believe all of the life hacks you read on the Internet. Boiling water with Dawn dish-washing soap MAY clear a clogged drain, but it could also crack the porcelain  and ruin the pop-up mechanism too.

This is the 2nd bathroom sink I've replaced in this house. The first was because the pop-up mechanism was broken along with some of the china parts too. My former roommates (AKA "the kids") were pretty rough on stuff and it was just one more broken thing to deal with at the time.

But the "matching" sinks don't really match. The original sinks had 3 overflow holes and a fairly sharp drop from the rim. The first replacement has 2 overflow holes and a more softened drop from the rim. My latest sink not only has only one drain hole, but it has a brand emblem tattooed just under the faucet in black.  Yes, my 2 sinks in the same bathroom don't really match.

I know it's time to remodel the bathroom but I just don't want to. This may be a project for the next owner, KWIM?

Forcing things to work

Sometimes your mojo gets up and goes away.

I was playing with acrylic paints a couple of weeks ago, and made this interesting green background. I liked it very much, by itself, and it seemed to work with the dragonfly which was colored weeks ago.

I still haven't figured out how to use a sketch properly, and no matter which way I put the parts, they didn't look right, or took off too much of the green background, which was the point of this card in the first place.

So I messed and messed with it. I took out lots of paper and made a big mess on my desk, and in the end stamped a flower and put the bug on one of the blossoms. Then of course that wasn't the end after all, as the black stamped flower looked odd, so I found these old little flowers by Jolie to put over the plain black ovals.

Now I'm calling it done even if it isn't my finest work.

The dragonfly is from The Alley Way Stamps Fly By set. The card is going in the box to Operation Write Home.

Several other things went wrong last weekend, like my garage door, and my pressure washer. I tried to force them to work too, and they just broke for my trouble. I was under a deadline to get my driveway clean and Murphy was doing his thing with me. Maybe that affected my creativity? That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

22 Days and Counting

It has been 22 days since I bought the microwave that couldn't be installed in my kitchen. It has been 28 days since I've had a working microwave. I went back to the store the same day the installation guy was here, but they couldn't help me until it came back to the store.

I have called the store several times since then, but have bumped up against several problems. My sales guy has been on vacation this week. Talking to the sales guys has been like talking to robots with preprogrammed responses.  I explain what the installation guy told me, and they explain whatever they want to say anyway.

I can only be home for installations on Fridays, unless I take time off from work. I'm going back today, and if I don't get satisfaction I'm at least going to get a refund. Then I'm going to the mom and pop store here in town like I should have in the first place. They worked with me on the washing machine issue without drama or delays.

This will be my 3rd trip back to the store. Pray for me. No, pray for those sales guys with the robot answers.

I liked it so much I bought it twice

My new juicer I bought on eBay, that is. I had one before, in my previous life that I left behind. Both times I hung around eBay and put my bid in the last few seconds and got good deals on this well-rated juicer.

Even though they are identical, this one isn't as efficient. The stuff that comes out isn't as dry for this one. I'm not sure what I expected for 19.99 plus shipping, so I won't complain. I do like the juice, and I know it's good for me. If I stick with it maybe I'll get a better one next year.

On a crazier note, apparently the toaster oven caught on fire twice yesterday. No matter how they explain it, the fact remains that these things never happen to me, only them. The toaster oven is in the trash and I won't be replacing it until they are gone. Kind of like the ironing board.

Anybody want to buy two 25 year old roommates, cheap? Any takers for free? Anyone?
